This silk painting is a copy of a Turkish miniature painting of the Ottoman Empire, 14th-17th centuries, (Topkapi Museum, Istanbul, Turkey) depicting a sultan attending a festival with dancing boys in girls clothes. In traditional Islamic art figures were very stylized, symbolism being favored over realism.
