How do I get my work featured on your site?

Any artist interested in being our next feature artist is encouraged to send 12 good quality photos of his/her most recent work to Young Artists, 16039 Walnut Drive, Fayetteville Arkansas, 72704. Only one artist will be selected each month, out of all the talented artists in the world who see our site, so please don't be discouraged if it isn't you this time. We will notify you right away of our decision via e-mail and return your pictures via snail mail.

How do I photograph my work to the best advantage?

It's a shame something as magnificent as a painting or sculpture would have to be judged from a photograph but that's the case. A good book on the subject is Photographing Your Artwork by Russell Hart, published by North Light Books. He emphasizes slide photography but the same methods are used for photographic prints. We need prints for scanning purposes. If you are an excellent photographer try photographing your 2-D pieces on the north side of a building on a sunny windless day around noon. You will need a tripod, a 35mm SLR camera, 100 spd film, a cable release, and a UV, 2A, or 2B filter. For 3-D or indoor shoots you'll also need a couple of photo lamps and filters to compensate for the type of light you are using. Another option is to hire a photographer to take the photos. Young Artists Gallery will only present top quality representations of your work.

How much does it cost if I get selected?

We have two payment options for feature artists which we hope will take into account each artist's financial circumstance.

Option 1: Established Artist

If you are an established artist you probably cringe every time you receive a check for one of your pieces which is 40 to 60% less than the price for which the piece actually sold. In that case you would be interested in our -$30.00 per month plus 10% commission on all works sold through Young Artists Gallery -plan.

Option 2: Starving Artist

Hey, we've all been there! Roll your pennies because option two costs only $5.00 a month plus a 50% commission on works sold through our virtual Gallery. Your investment is nominal and if we sell a piece for you, half of something beats nothing at all. Plus, you can always upgrade to Option 1 next month.

An initial set-up fee of $30.00 will be charged with either plan for site design and development.

If I am selected as a Feature Artist, what other materials will you need?

We would like a copy of your artist resume including Artist Bio, Artist Statement, Awards and Honors, Shows, Collectors, Price List, etc. Also we would appreciate any additional written material about you such as a collector's note to you praising his purchase, articles written about you, or published reviews of your work. Of course we will need excellent quality photos of yourself, or self-portraits. Finally, we need a detailed description of your technique, your preferred subject matter and your favorite artists. Is that enough? Don't worry, we will send a detailed list with attached forms to fill out along with your gallery contract.

Who sets the price of each piece?

The artist sends a price list on each piece along with his portfolio material and gallery contract. The price you send us should include your time, materials, our commission, and shipping and handling fees to Young Artists Gallery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. If you would like us to estimate shipping charges for you, you will need to package a piece as securely as possible and e-mail us your zip code and the package dimensions: weight, length, width, height. If your pieces vary quite a bit in size, go with the measurements of the biggest piece (packaged).

What happens if you sell one of my pieces?

You are notified immediately that a transaction is taking place and where and how to ship your piece. You are responsible for insurance and shipping costs to Young Artists Gallery but we will charge the customer for shipping from Fayetteville, Arkansas to their location. We will research the safest and most economical means of shipment before contacting you. You will again get e-mail notification as soon as we receive and inspect your piece. You will get another notification that your check is on its way as soon as the collector's check clears the bank. Finally, we will e-mail you that your collector has received your art in good condition and forward you his/her name and address for your collectors' file.

What happens to my pages after my feature month is past?

Your pages remain intact in our artist archives, indexed by name, medium, and subject matter. You may keep them there as your on-line presence until you or the gallery decide to terminate the gallery contract. As our artist archive becomes more extensive we'll add sub-categories to aide collectors, art enthusiasts, students and educators in their tours of the site.

What happens if one of my paintings is no longer for sale?

You will have to sign a gallery contract that states that all of the paintings we feature are indeed in your possession and for sale. If that condition ever changes, if you sell it or we do, we need to update the site immediately with an alternative piece. Commission artists will of course have a different contract.
