This figure seems to melt into the base of her tree like a wood nymph. Her hand, however, is holding the brim of a very un-sprite-like hat as though in the next moment she will awaken leaving the sun and this stolen moment behind. Both the delightful play of shadows across the path behind and the colorful tangle of tree roots in the foreground lead the eye continuously back to the relative simplicity of the figure. |
