| Christy Young prefers to meet with her customers initially to clarify their ideas for a portrait and take photos of the subject(s) in a variety of poses. She prefers to work from life but most customers don't have the time to invest in a series of sittings, so most of her portraits are painted from her photos. Even if the customer opts for sittings, photographs allow Christy to objectively compare the merits of each pose, before sketching the proposed layout. |

| In subsequent sessions she will endeavor to work over the whole figure or figures at once, refining and adding more detail with each session until she is satisfied with the results. Some areas will receive greater or lesser detail, depending on the emphasis of the portrait. For instance, areas of shadow or sections further back in the picture will usually have less detail. Often details that would call attention away from the sitter's face, such as highlights, reflections or patterns in clothing or background, will be simplified or omitted. |

Christy paints in her studio or outdoors, when weather (and children) permit.
