A horse eyes us curiously while, oblivious to our presence, two men unload a wooden rowboat for fishing. In this painting, one of his most recent pieces, Jimmie Johnson experiments with a pale almost transparent background which he merges with his more characteristcally textured foreground through the activty of the men and a well-placed shade tree.
